Chunky Monkey

There have been so many changes this month!
Brennan starting rolling over (front to back) in the middle of the month. He's starting to try back to front, but not seriously. He's getting pretty stable sitting up, and can sit for several minutes with the boppy pillow supporting him. He's aware of strangers, and if they get too close when he's not in a good mood, he gets upset. I think it's kinda cute, but it's not really that good, since he is getting upset sometimes when I am not around. Not good when I have to work! Luckily I usually work when his dad is home, and Brennan adores his daddy! Brennan is getting really good at grabbing things and getting them into his mouth. He's getting to be more fun to play with! We've been getting outside now that the weather is warm, and while he likes going for walks, Brennan is still not happy about wind and sunshine. By the end of summer he'll be over it!

Brennan had his NICU follow-up appointment this month and he is doing great! He's right where he should be - he's right in between his corrected and chronological ages. I think he will be caught up in just a few months. At 15.5 pounds, he's now all the way up to the 15% percentile! He definitely had a growth spurt - he gained 3 pounds in about 6 weeks! What a chunk! Since he is doing so well, we started him on solid foods the day after he turned 6 months old. We started with rice cereal, and the looks on his face were priceless! He didn't really hate it, but he kept giving us these looks like, "Mom, there's something weird in my mouth! Why is this happening to me?" In less than a week, he's already learned a lot about eating solids! He knows what a spoon is for and how to get food off of it, and he swallows most of it. It's really cool how fast he's learning. Today he tried bananas, which he seemed to like better than rice cereal. It's really mostly banana-flavored formula of course. In a few days we'll start sweet potatoes!

This morning Brennan had his first fever. I knew when I picked him up from his crib that he was too warm, so I took his temp - 100.2! He had his vaccines yesterday, so luckily he wasn't sick, just reacting to the vaccines. He was still happy, just hot and sleepy - he took a TWO HOUR nap this afternoon! We went to the conservatory at Como with Grandma P and Aunt Laura in the morning, and he did fine after a dose of tylenol. I think he really liked watching all the people walk around.

On March 14, we did a child dedication for B at church. The Lord blessed us with a beautiful baby boy, so we dedicated his life to the Lord and promised to bring him up knowing God and all that entails. Our families came over afterward to celebrate and Brennan loved being the center of attention!

Now I must join the rest of the family in slumber!

Overdue Update

There is no baby cuter than Brennan. It's just not possible. Everyday he gets about a thousand kisses because I can't resist those darling chubby cheeks! I think he has gone through a growth spurt. He seems so big all of a sudden! I have been putting off changing out his clothes to the next size because it makes me sad that he's growing so fast. But he's fitting all the 3-6month clothes now! I kept looking at them and thinking they were too big, but NOPE! My little man is big!
In the last few days, Brennan has started using his hands a lot more. He reaches out to everything now instead of just a few select toys. And he tries to get everything in his mouth! He isn't very good at it yet, which makes him very frustrated, but it's pretty cute to watch! There's a toy that I put on his tummy and when he realizes it's there, he gets an intense look of concentration and then uses both hands to get it up into his mouth! I just watch him and laugh because it's adorable. Brennan also clearly recognizes his bottle. When I have it ready and am getting ready to feed him, he stares at it very intensely. Once he reached out for it - I thought it might be by accident, so I moved it over and he did it again! He couldn't grab it or anything, he just pushed it around. Today he started sucking on his fingers while staring at his bottle, and that made him mad since he wasn't getting any milk!
Brennan is holding his head up well and he's even using his arms to hold himself up a little bit. He has a mirror that he loves to talk to, so I put it in front of him while he's on his tummy and he forgets to get mad for a few minutes. Shonna was babysitting him on Monday, and she thinks he rolled over! We're not sure if he rolled over or if Shonna just had a memory lapse though :). He hasn't rolled over for me yet, but he really tries! He starts to get one side up a little, and I think it scares him a little. His toy also scares him! He has a ball that lights up, talks, and rolls around on its own a little, and we put it in Brennan's lap and he got a really big pout! He did that with another loud toy too. Maybe we will stick to quiet toys!
Anyway, I am sure B will roll over soon, because that boy is strong! He loves to stand, and he can do it while just holding onto my fingers! Earlier I grabbed his hands to pull him into a sitting position, and instead he just stood up! He got strong legs when he was doing all that kicking in my belly! He'll be sitting soon, too. If you prop him up the right way, he can sit for 20-30 seconds. Although he never does it when anyone else is watching! So no one really believes me. But Brennan will show them soon! He's growing so fast, it won't be long before he's running around. :)
